Help One Child’s Education Program
We believe that education is a vital component for keeping adoptive, foster, and kinship families healthy. We are glad that you are here and hope you can join us for some of our upcoming trainings!
Help One Child’s Education Program focuses on three areas.
1. Adoption/Foster Care/Kinship Care
2. Trauma
3. Attachment
Certificates for RFA Hours
We can provide certificates by request (judy@helponechild.org) for any of our trainings (or support groups) that you have attended. You can submit these to your social worker for RFA hours. Approval for hours is up to your social worker.
Types of Training
Help One Child hosts the following types of trainings. Registration is required for all trainings. For virtual trainings and support groups, please email judy@helponechild.org to set up a virtual volunteer connection if you need childcare with a vetted volunteer on a separate device with your child during a session. Please request a volunteer match five days prior to the virtual event. Childcare is available by RSVP only through the registration process when we start meeting again in person.
Starting June 2020, all trainings are being held Tuesdays and Saturdays virtually on zoom while Shelter in Place orders stand. In 2019-2020 these were in person and held at New Life Church in Cupertino on the third Sunday each month from 3-5pm. Childcare is provided by RSVP only. (RSVP by filling out the form linked in the descriptions below.)
We have eight Support Groups throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Our current locations are in the following cities (San Bruno, Half Moon Bay (Spanish), Palo Alto, San Jose, Los Gatos, Redwood City, and Morgan Hill). These Support Groups each have the option of hosting up to two Parent Trainings a year in place of their monthly meeting (same day/time/location as their normal monthly group meeting). We publicize these trainings on this page as they are open to any adoptive, foster, or kinship parent, even if they do not normally attend that Support Group. Registration is required for these Parent Trainings using the links below. Childcare is available by RSVP only five days prior to the training.
These take place on the weekend and are more in-depth trainings that usually span 3 or more hours. Local churches in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties host these events. Our Parent Seminars do have a small cost associated with them. Scholarships are available if needed.
