Seminar: The Role of Shame in the Life of the Adopted/Foster Child

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”10424″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Randall Rameriz, LCSW, LMFT will be presenting on how shame can be an underlying current in the life of adoptive, foster, and kinship children. Randall will also share ways that parents can help their children with this pervasive issue that often has its roots in early childhood exposure to trauma. This seminar will be hosted in Morgan Hill. Cost for the seminar is $15 for individuals, $20 for couples. Registration deadline is Saturday 9/14. “Shame refers to a vile condition or feeling which covers one’s entire self. Unlike guilt, which is that sense of personal blame or lack of innocence based on what we have done, shame says this is who we are. It is that repetitive message delivered by toxic stress that echoes, “You are worthless.”  Many of us spend a lifetime trying to overcome a core sense of shame based on who we believe we are.
Children who have experienced early abuse or abandonment are particularly susceptible to the experience of shame. It shapes their belief about themselves, their autobiographical narrative, and their expectations for their future. This workshop will explore the origins of shame, discuss how exposure to toxic stress reinforces it, and how parents and professionals can intervene to counteract its impact by releasing children from the bondage of shame.”
*This training will incorporate some faith-based content.
