Why the Terrible Twos Resurface in the Adolescent Years

Course Description: Parents are usually caught off guard by the sudden changes that occur in their developing teenager and will often resort to techniques that can harm communication, understanding, and empathy.

This course will review typical social-emotional stages of development in light of current brain science and current social climate. Emphasis will be placed on healthy interactions and understanding between parents and their teens. Breakout groups will have the opportunity to role-play common scenarios.Course Objectives:

  • Learners will review the differences between typical and at-risk development in adolescents, with special attention to youth of color in out-of-home placement.
  • Learners will understand strategies that help to strengthen the relationship, communication, and attachment between parents and their teenagers.
  • Learners will review the 41 Developmental Assets, how they mitigate risk in youth, and how to promote them in the family, school, and community.

He has 40+ years treating those impacted by a wide range of emotional disorders, health-related illness and toxic stress. Mr. Ramirez has taught as a professor for the School of Social Work at SJSU and in 2002, was awarded “Social Worker of the Year” by the Antelope Valley Unit of the National Association of Social Workers. He’s a husband, grandfather and an adoptive Dad.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Once you register for this virtual training, you will receive an email with the zoom joining details.
