Trauma Informed Parenting Part 2 with Randall Ramirez, LCSW, LMFT
March 18, 2023 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Course Description: In Part 1, we layed the foundation for parents to have a working knowledge of trauma and its effects on behavior, learning, and home/school climate. We covered awareness of trauma’s impact on the child’s neurophysiological system, behavior and cognition, to prevent children often experiencing their environment as unsafe, thus leading to at-risk encounters, depression, and self-harm.
For Part 2, We will briefly review the effect of complex trauma on children’s brains, behaviors, cognition, and neurophysiological system. But then the focus of our time will be reviewing scenarios and how to parent with a trauma informed lens.
Please submit scenarios by 3/4/23 that you would like addressed so this training can be relevant and helpful to you and your family. The more detailed the scenario, the better and the Therapist Trainer will combine topics and scenarios that are related to cover as many topics as possible with the time allotted. Priority will be given to scenarios submitted by the deadline. Upon registering, you’ll be prompted to submit scenarios.
Course Objectives:
- Parent learners will review what Complex Trauma is and its impact on the child’s developing brain and behaviors.
- Parent learners will be able to gain knowledge of effective strategies and interventions.
- Parent learners will explore typical scenarios with children from hard places and how to parent through a trauma informed lens.
Course Description: Parenting children from hard places requires that parents and caregivers have a working knowledge of trauma and its effects on behavior, learning, and home/school climate. Without adequate awareness of trauma’s impact on the child’s neurophysiological system, behavior and cognition, children can often experience their environment as unsafe, thus leading to at-risk encounters, depression, and self-harm.
Course Objectives:
- Parent learners will understand Complex Trauma and its impact on the child’s developing brain.
- Parents learners will be able to identify common symptoms and behaviors related to Complex Trauma.
- Parent learners will be able to gain knowledge of effective strategies and interventions.
- Parent learners will be able to identify programming adjustments to respond to complex trauma.
