Get your church involved helping at-risk kids!
There is an ongoing need for advocates to share Help One Child’s mission to their church, community organizations, and employer philanthropy programs. Our staff works diligently to introduce the ministry to the many layers of each church community: pastors, elders, staff, and church attendees.
Become a Ministry Lead! This critical volunteer position serves as a liaison and works to identify ways their church may be able to partner with Help One Child. If you would like to see your church further engaged, please let us know.
Ready to take action? Here are some ways your church/organization can help us meet the needs of local at-risk children:
Join Help One Child in raising awareness of the current foster care crisis and celebrating those who have expanded their family. The involvement and approach may be tailored to each church’s availability and interest. Raising awareness can include, but is not limited to: social media campaigns, spreading awareness through small groups or ministries, or sharing a brief story or video in service. Our team will provide any content, stories or related material needed.
Participate In A Donation Drive
During the holiday season, Help One Child partners with churches throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties to bring the joy of Christmas to at-risk children. Each member of your congregation has the opportunity to chose an ornament with a personal gift request from a local at-risk child. In 2017 with the help of 40 churches and organizations, over 2,400 gifts were collected and distributed!
Each August, Help One Child blesses the 65 campers who attend our Signs of Hope Camp with new camping necessities that are frequently missing upon arrival. The kids love their Welcome Care Package that consists of a towel, bathing suit, flip flops, PJ’s and a sweatshirt. The Camp Drive ensures that no one misses out on the fun activities due to lack of resources.
Host an Outreach Event
Are you ready to see your church engaged? Help One Child sponsors seasonal events, parent trainings, and respite events throughout the year. Our hope is to equip and enable the Church to host these events and be the hands and feet of God. Equip: we will come alongside your ministry lead to provide necessary training and program structure. Enable: we will invite our network of families, providing your church the opportunity to love and support the at-risk families in your region.
Short Term Mission Opportunity
Signs of Hope Camp, sponsored by Help One Child, is a week long summer camp for foster children 7-11 years old held at Mission Spring’s Frontier Ranch in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Sixty-five children experience and learn about the love of God through the lessons and devotion of camp counselors. Whether you can give a couple hours, or the whole week, it takes an army of volunteers to make camp possible. We need your help recruiting volunteers from your church to fill these roles.
Wrap around your community
Safe Families for Children (SFFC) is an unprecedented movement of compassion aimed at reducing child abuse and abandonment by coming alongside children and families in crisis. SFFC provides a tangible way for the church family to love their neighbor and administer preventative care. As the SF Peninsula sponsor of the movement, the ministry recruits, screens and trains volunteers to serve as a safety net to families facing a crisis.
